A big Cross-Series Update: By Caliburn

You’ve probably all forgotten me by now, but I’m a writer here on Karoshi, my name’s Caliburn. Lately I’ve been way too busy to watch anime, let alone blog about it, with parties, school work, video games (Still can’t put down Gears of War), and my lovely new Wii in the way. But here I’ll give you all a quick sum up of how I think things are going with the series I was tracking.

Death Note: This was my top pick for the season at first, but I haven’t watched any of it since episode five. Why is this? I don’t really know, the directing and scenes in episode one were FANTASTIC in my opinion, the music, scenery and artwork is pretty top notch. but as I waded through the episodes I realized that Death Note is just better suited to be a manga. There are so many thought provoking inner monologues and mind games that it just doesn’t look good on the screen. Also, I feel like it’s moving really fast. When I first got into the Death Note manga, there were four volumes out in English by Viz, so I’ve just been picking those up as they come out. No scanslations or anything, the long gap and lengthy amount of time it would take for me to read through a volume felt just right. I’m not sure if some other people feel the same way as I do about this, perhaps it’s because I have some more unique circumstances with the way I paced my reading of the manga.

Negima?!: NEEDS MORE EVANGELINE. Ahem, other than that I’m pretty interested in how the series is progressing, it’s totally different from the manga now, the small Evangeline arc that the series started off with seems to be the only thing that the two different series will share. Already Kaede has been contracted and even Fuuka and Fumika (They still don’t know Negi’s a mage in the actual manga, as of chapter 159) and we have some odd new guy jumping around and leaving riddles for Negi and his growing group of partners. It looks like the entire class might be contracted to Negi by the end of this show at the rate of 1 to 2 new partners per episode. Originally I heard the show was supposed to be mostly serious, but a lot of humors been seeping through and it’s all so Pani Poni-ish at points, not that I’m complaining since I loved that series.

Welcome to the N.H.K.: I completely dropped this series, it was just so terrible to watch it, I stuck with it up until that suicide trip thing. When they made an ENTIRE EPISODE of emo bullshit that never happened in the manga I was friggin’ DONE. Terrible artwork, horrible abortion of a decent plot, just Gonzo QUALITY at it’s best all over the place, it was more than I could handle. DVD releases can’t even save this crap.

Well that’s about all the ranting I’ve got to do. I am mostly keeping up with the series but it’s easy for me to fall behind with so much on my plate, plus I’m entering the final semster in college, so I’m gonna get SLAMMED here. ugh, good bye anime, I hardly knew ye.

VIZ(aka Shonen Jump Advanced) handles Death Note, not Del Rey, just to clarify.
